Hope for Justice has been supporting the Ethiopian Government to strengthen families against the risks of modern slavery.
We were invited to share our expertise with the Government’s Ministry of Women and Social Affairs department as part of their engagement with NGOs over the creation of a new marriage, family guidance and counselling manual.
Hope for Justice promotes strong, resilient families because we know from our work that this can reduce the risk of children and young people being exploited.
One of our lead social workers took part in a three-day engagement session alongside other stakeholders.
Biniyam Andargie, Hope for Justice’s Head of Social Work in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, said: “The bureau invited us through a formal letter to share our expertise and we willingly accepted because Hope for Justice is committed to addressing the root causes of modern slavery and human trafficking. We were pleased to contribute our professional insights to the Government’s endeavours.”
The manual will be used to equip counsellors, social workers and other professionals with the knowledge and skills to provide effective marriage and family counselling.
Members of our team have also been invited to attend a workshop on ‘Marriage and Family Guidance Counselling’, exploring this topic in the context of the Government’s family and community development programme.
This workshop has been organised to support the professional development of social workers in marriage and family counselling, to improve social cohesion and promote family wellbeing. Training will focus on cultivating positive family relationships and mitigating family-related challenges within communities.
