Pedal power to ‘break the cycle’ of human trafficking in Iowa

More than 70 cyclists mounted their bikes for a huge fundraising event to support Hope for Justice and our work in Iowa, U.S.

This was the first Break the Cycle ride of 2026, kickstarting a programme of upcoming events. Participants chose whether to undertake a 25, 50, or 100-mile ride.

Senior Investigator Mark Herbst said: “Events like this remind us that the fight against human trafficking is not fought alone; it’s powered by communities who choose to show up, give back, and make a difference right here in Iowa.

“Seeing so many people come together – riding miles and giving their time – shows the kind of commitment it takes to bring hope and justice to survivors.”

After completing the ride, cyclists enjoyed a home-cooked, authentic Mexican meal, courtesy of Limitless Church. During the meal, Hope for Justice’s Senior Investigator Mark Herbst presented an overview of the organization’s work, highlighting efforts to combat human trafficking – with a specific focus on Iowa.

There are additional Break the Cycle fundraising events taking place in Iowa next week, which our CEO, Tim Nelson, will be attending.
