An endurance runner is going to be taking on the biggest challenge of his life when he attempts a 200-mile non-stop ultra-marathon to raise funds and awareness for victims of human trafficking and modern slavery.
Aaron Robinson is Internal Communications Manager here at Hope for Justice – it will take him three whole days and nights of continuous running, with no breaks for meals, nor to sleep. We think it’s incredible what he is doing, but so is the scale of the issue he is drawing attention to – there are approximately 40.3 million men, women and children trapped in modern slavery today, and even more victims are likely to be hidden away, uncounted and unknown.
Aaron joined Hope for Justice this year, and was shocked to hear how prevalent this crime is. Aaron decided that he wanted to do something about it, using his passion of running to help those who cannot run away from their exploitation. And while he’s done long-distance runs before, he’s never attempted anything on this scale.
Aaron said: “I’m choosing to run 200 miles to bring awareness to people who have no choice – people who are forced into the sex trade, or controlled by another person over where they live, work and sleep. Hope for Justice reaches around 200,000 people each year through our work to bring an end to modern slavery. So, every mile I run will represent a thousand people who we’ve reached this year. But we want to reach more; there’s no limit to how far we’ll go to end modern slavery.”
Hope for Justice relies on the generous support of donors and fundraisers to empower our vital work, which is based around four pillars: preventing exploitation, rescuing victims, restoring lives and reforming society in locations across the world.
Aaron is available for interview – email press@hopeforjustice.org to arrange or call 0300 008 0055.
The run takes place from September 12-14th. Aaron’s fundraising page is: https://www.justgiving.com/campaign/BTC200
